((WATCH)) MICHAEL SATA AND MWANAWASA RECONCILIATION VIDEO JUNE 2008

03:23
In June 2008, His Excellence the President of the Republic of Zambia, Dr. Levy Patrick Mwanawasa, State Counsel reconciled with opposition leader of the Patriotic Front Mr. Michael Chilufya Sata at State House,Lusaka, Zambia. BACKGROUND Sata and Mwanawasa had a lot differences dated as back as 1992 when the later was the Vice President. When it came to power transfer in the ruling MMD, President Frederick Chiluba opted for Mwanawasa leaving the highly rated Sata. This prompted Sata to rebel out and form his own party, the Patriotic Front (PF) with a view to chuck out MMD out of power. Sata lost the 2001 elections to Mwanawasa which he himself knew that he could not win. He became the critical of president Mwanawasa's government. Things turned even worse when he lost the 2006 elections to which he cried foul. He became very bitter towards the president and used all sorts of bad languages to bring him down. Unfortunately in June 2008, Sata was critically ill and this captured the attention of President Mwanawasa who evacuated him to South Africa for some special medical attention. He was successfully treated and upon his arrival in Zambia, a reconciliation meeting was arranged and the two leaders reconciled and buried their differences. Mwanawasa died in the same year i.e. 2008 and was succeeded by his vice, Rupiah Banda. Sata defeated Banda in the 2011 presidential elections. He only ruled upto 2014 when he met his fate. THE EVENT 00:00 Greetings and exchange of jokes between Mwanawasa and Sata 00:30 Sata jokes with George Kunda, the then Justice Minister 00:39 Mwanawasa Speech; ‘’’He (Sata) was maliciously making my job difficult to govern this country. You see, the news of his illness greeted me with sadness (and) I realized how much I needed him. I just realized how much I needed him to be present. I don’t want him to be hero worshiped all the time, I want people who can correct me, to show me that the best it could be done is this way………. 02:20 Sata Speech; ‘’My colleagues from PF, my colleagues from MMD lets help the President to ………… today is the commander in chief.
